About the Role
Our client is an established and international, commercial art gallery. They are looking for an experienced Korean art market expert to join their gallery team in Seoul. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of the Korean Art Market with a comprehensive network of clients. They will be goal-driven, energetic, strategic and well-organised with an ability to implement a sales plan to drive revenue growth as well as manage and develop the team in South Korea.
The role is an addition to their existing team and can either be based within the gallery if the candidate is already based in Seoul, or can be worked remotely if the candidate is based elsewhere in Asia, with at least 6 travel dates to Korea over the year.
Key Responsibilities:
- Play a key leadership role, working closely with the partner and directors in Asia and the founders, in the US, to develop and implement gallery strategy
- Drive sales strategies.
- Develop and implement sales, marketing, branding, and outreach initiatives.
- Help manage Korea sales staff, create and implement team strategy.
- Establish and grow relationships within global art community: artists, curators, museums, collectors, critics and press.
- Strengthen relations with artists.
- Suggest and cultivate new artists.
- Actively manage and cultivate top tier collectors: make offers, arrange studio visits, extend and develop client base globally.
- Bring in and sell secondary market works.
- Be a presence in Korea and greater Asia art scenes.
- Travel throughout Korea and overseas, meeting with key collectors, museums, influencers.
- Develop and implement a clear strategy for targeting top tier connections.
- Be a public persona of the gallery, interact with the press.
- Meet a predetermined sales goal.
- Work within gallery margin targets on each sale.
- Foster teamwork and efficient communication within gallery.
About you:
- A background in commercial art sales, ideally 5+ years in an auction house, gallery or advisory
- An expert in the Korean Art Market
- The ideal candidate will be a high level salesperson in South Korea or Asia
- Fluent English essential, other languages beneficial.
- Secondary and Primary market experience beneficial
Salary: US$120,000 - $150,000 + Commission
Typical artwork price range:
Primary – US$45k to $150k Secondary – sweet spot is between US$400k and $3 million
Sales targets: US$5-6 million; ideally $2 million net
