About the Role

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director, the Sales and Artist Associate plays a key role in managing existing relationships with long-term clients as well as successfully developing new clients with an emphasis on the West Coast.  Ensuring a high rate of client retention is a key indicator of success for the Sales and Artist Associate.

 
Job Responsibilities

The Sales and Artist Associate understands the company’s growth strategy and the goals that are specific to marketing and sales. The Sales and Artist Associate is responsible for:

Sales Strategy:

  • Understand local market and identify ways to increase visibility and penetration;
  • Understand competitor offering and pricing to leverage our strengths;
  • Deliver an annual sales target in excess of £1,250,000 NET;
  • Oversee the Los Angeles Viewing Rooms by selecting artworks and coordinating with Operations Manager
  • Fully understand the costs, discount policies and target margins for works;
  • Balance outstanding client service with the needs of the gallery;
  • Generate sales invoices and facilitate post-sale service to clients;
  • Implement consistent engagement strategies with walk-in visitors, phone and email inquiries;
  • Spend time with clients, visit them at home and attend artist studios to home in on their interests;
  • Work closely with art advisors who represent multiple clients;
  • Develop richer client profiles including interests, engagement and sales;
  • Review auctions to determine comparable values and selling opportunities;
  • Mine business intelligence in Salesforce to focus client outreach and improve the results of every campaign;
  • Work with Head of Client Development to segment prospects and clients and undertake research to offer relevant works and tailored content to prospects and clients;
  • Work closely with Head of West Coast development to support regional strategy including planning and executing short business trips to key regional cities to build on existing relationships with collectors and museums as well as developing new business opportunities to extend our impact within the region;
  • Cultivate new types of collectors who haven’t thought of gallery’s as a “go-to place” for them;
  • Cultivate new museum contacts including curators and development staff at broader west coast institutions where gallery has yet to solidify strong relationships.
  • Secure prompt payment by clientele and third-party consignors;
  • Manage a pipeline of prospects and clients and input conversion efforts and sales in SF;
  • Serve as a brand ambassador at galas, industry events, art fairs, gallery and museum exhibitions;
  • Work from the Los Angeles gallery Tuesday – Friday during business hours.

Artist Management:

  • Work with Director(s) on the market development strategy for designated artists;
  • Manage artist relationships pro-actively to seize on media, museum, promotional and sales opportunities;
  • Facilitate commissions and the fabrication of works with the Operations team;
  • Collaborate with artists on the concept, design and installation of gallery exhibitions;
  • Update gallery team regularly on the status of inventory, exhibitions, special projects and other issues related to the artists with whom they work.

General:

  • Attend all sales meetings and compile weekly re-caps;
  • Orient and train new hires as needed;
  • Ensure effective internal communication so that colleagues have sufficient and timely information to achieve their goals;
  • Use information systems to improve efficiency.


Requirements:

  • Charismatic, enthusiastic and persuasive personality

  • BA and/or MA in Art History.
  • 3+ years as a specialist or a salesperson or an artist manager in the commercial art world.
  • Computer skills: MS Office Suite and Salesforce

 
Salary: Around $80k base + commission + benefits.
