About the Role

Role description:

A contemporary London-based art gallery is looking for an Art Researcher to join its team. This role will provide critical research. The ideal candidate will have a BA or MA in History of Art and will be able to demonstrate critical awareness of key discourses within the art world.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • In-depth research of artworks
  • Provenance research, attributions, and bibliography
  • Cataloguing, documenting and updating the database accordingly
  • Writing entries based on specialist research (including provenance, bibliography compilation and illustration lists)
  • Working on loan requests
  • Working on publication projects
  • Proof-reading and fact-checking
  • Archival research
  • Provide administrative support to senior staff
  • Consult and liaise with experts, curators and institutions internationally to obtain artwork/image/artist information and documents

Person Specification

  • Educated to at least Master's level in a relevant Art programme
  • Experience researching artworks, clients, sourcing and performing provenance checks
  • Great writer academically; experience of writing for the web is highly advantageous
  • Experienced in using gallery management software and databases & IT literate
  • Confident and able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented person
  • Fluent in written and spoken English, with any additional languages highly desirable
  • Highly motivated
