Studio Manager for an Artist’s Studio, based in Shoreditch

Hours: 9-6 Monday to Friday, with flexibility for occasional evenings and weekends.

Salary: Around £45,000 depending on experience.

Location: In the artist’s studio in Shoreditch

Responsible to: The artist/Director

Responsible for: Part time Studio staff, Studio technicians, Photographers, Contractors, Fabricators, Metal and Woodworkers, Catering, Cleaners, Accountants, all Contractors.

A role requiring someone with excellent initiative who is able to work alone and with a team. Someone who can navigate complex and chaotic situations and bring order and clarity. Someone who has worked with institutions not just in them. Must be used to working in a small team and alone.

Experience:

• 4+ years experience working directly with a major/bluechip artist.
• Fabrication and major public installation.
• Urgent in person and telephone service procurement
• Project management of major public events of up to 3000 people.
• Crisis management.
• Sales of primary artworks over £500,000
• International shipping of sculptural artworks up to 3 tonnes.
• Liaison with major international auction houses.
• International litigation
• Intellectual property, trademarking and licensing
• Database management
• Maintaining contracts, subscriptions, services and amenities.
• Leading multiple teams.
• International sales

Duties:

• Studio archive/catalogue- Managing and documenting artworks on secondary market.
• Management of office and studio space- Maintaining physical spaces.
• Procurement of equipment, tools, supplies-
• Monitoring emails, phone, mail- making and maintaining current projects clients and personal.
• Tax, business rates, rent- Maintaining financial stability for the business
• Procuring primary sales- finding new collectors and investors.
• Procuring new projects- building new relationships with institutions, museums and galleries.
• Liaising with existing clients- Maintaining relationships with supporters and clients.
• Art Handling- Ensuring safe transportation and storage of artworks with technicians and shippers.
• Monitoring secondary market- Liaising directly with collectors, auctions and galleries.
• Database management, provenance and authentication- Using database to maintain provenance on all artworks.
• Shipping- Safe transport of all artworks.
• Storage management- Maintaining condition and safety of all artworks.
• Liaising with galleries and auctions- Maintaining relationships with secondary market vendors.
• Licensing deals- Responding to licensing requests.
• Litigation- liaising with legal team with the artist.
• Maintaining IP- Liaising with legal team.
• Booking photographers/ filmmakers- procuring and maintaining communications with freelance photographers and filmmakers.
• Managing technical team- Procuring, Booking and managing all technical team.
• Managing digital team- Tending to the database and all technical infrastructure with tech support.
• Handling - opening and packing with tech team and Ensuring all art is kept safe and in good conditioning.
• Maintenance of studio- Maintaining a safe working environment at studio and office booking and procuring cleaning and repair services
• Stocking of studio- Ensuring that supplies and equipment are always stocked.
• Studio visits- Arranging and preparing for client and institutional studio visits.
• Travel bookings- Making detailed itinerary for the artist and teams for site visits and projects.
• Website management- Ensuring the public and office facing web presence is maintained.
• Social media management - Preparing materials in partnership with the artist.
• Correspondence- Monitoring and responding to all contacts and informing artist of any new developments.
• Project management- Maintaining ongoing and future projects.
• Event management- arranging events
• Payments- making all payments to staff and freelancers.
