About the Role
Key priorities of the role include, but are not limited to:
- Leading the handling and packing of artworks for storage and transportation
- Daily, general gallery upkeep and maintenance of the gallery
- Overseeing the installation of exhibitions across the gallery spaces
- Providing advanced technical assistance with AV, lighting, and exhibition set-ups
- Performing minor electrical work as required
- Supervising junior technicians and coordinating with curatorial teams
- Ad Hoc duties as needed
Candidate Specifications:
- A minimum of 3 years experience in art handling in a gallery, auction house, artist, or museum setting including shipping, handling, packing, and storage.
- Leadership experience in technical roles is desirable; someone who can motivate teams and lead projects
- Knowledge of best practices and materials for handling and packing artwork.
- A diverse understanding of different mediums and materials and experience installing a wide range of artworks, including large sculptures, media-based artworks, etc. is desirable
- Experience with sculpture restoration is beneficial but not essential
- Ability to manage a personal busy workload and keep calm when under pressure
- Proven problem-solving skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with a client-facing role, as client visits and interactions will be integral
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Attention to detail
- A driver's license and/or forklift license are advantageous
- Must be capable of heavy lifting and working with large-scale artworks
