About the Role

The Head of Shipping plays a pivotal role in the logistics and operations of the gallery by managing all aspects of artwork transportation. This includes overseeing domestic and international shipping, ensuring compliance with customs and art handling protocols, and collaborating with internal teams to ensure all aspects of a shipment are delivered safely, professionally, on time and in-line with our exceptional client experience.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage all shipping activities, including transportation, customs clearance, packing and crating.
  • Ensure the safe handling and transportation of artworks, following industry best practices.
  • Negotiate bespoke shipping costs to optimize costs without compromising quality.
  • Where necessary, troubleshoot to rectify problems in a timely manner and ensure all stakeholders are informed accordingly
  • Ensure all shipments are carried out in full compliance with local/international regulations, such as Export and CITES licenses.
  • Handle inbound and outbound MIBs for staff members when required
  • Work closely with the Pre-Sale, Post-Sale and Art Technician teams alongside the wider Logistics team to ensure projects are delivered accurately, cost-effectively and to deadline
  • Oversee careful management of Bond and TA processing
  • Ensure the Chief Operations Officer is aware of any escalated issues raised by internal or external clients, suppliers or other third parties.

Person Specification

  • A minimum of 7+ years’ experience managing a team within a fine art shipper, auction house, or relatable working environment – experience of a fast-paced environment essential
  • Very strong organisational, analytical, managerial and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Experience of Bonded Warehouse/TA Procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to reflect our company standards in all situations
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and written presentation skills
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook essential)
  • Additional languages helpful but not essential
