About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and commercially driven Sales Director to lead gallery’s revenue generation, client development, and strategic sales initiatives for the London gallery. This role is responsible for driving primary and secondary market sales, building and managing key collector relationships, and positioning the gallery within the international art market.

The Sales Director will play a central role in shaping the gallery’s commercial strategy while maintaining the highest standards of connoisseurship, client service, and market intelligence.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Sales & Revenue Growth:

  • Lead all sales activity across the gallery, art fairs, and private channels
  • Achieve and exceed annual sales targets
  • Develop pricing strategies in collaboration with artists and senior leadership
  • Identify and secure high-value sales opportunities

Client Development:

  • Build and manage relationships with collectors, advisors, institutions, and museums
  • Expand and nurture a global client base, with a focus on UHNW and HNW individuals
  • Host and attend private views, dinners, and events to cultivate relationships
  • Maintain detailed and strategic use of CRM systems

Market Strategy:

  • Monitor market trends, artist performance, and competitor activity
  • Advise on artist positioning and inventory strategy
  • Collaborate on exhibition planning with a strong commercial lens
  • Drive participation and performance at international art fairs

Leadership & Team Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the sales team (currently Sales Manager and Sales Associate)
  • Set KPIs and ensure accountability across the department
  • Foster a high-performance, collaborative sales culture

Partnerships & External Relations:

  • Represent the gallery at key industry events and fairs
  • Build relationships with advisors, consultants, and institutions
  • Support partnerships, sponsorships, and brand collaborations


Candidate profile / Experience:

  • Minimum 7–10+ years in art sales or gallery leadership
  • Proven track record of achieving significant sales targets
  • Strong network of collectors and art world contacts
  • Experience working with international clients and art fairs
  • Knows and admires the gallery’s programme and has suitable client

Skills & Competencies:

  • Good knowledge of ArtLogic and Notion
  • Exceptional sales acumen and negotiation skills
  • Deep understanding of the contemporary/modern art market
  • Strong communication and relationship-building ability
  • Strategic thinking with commercial awareness
  • High level of discretion and professionalism

Salary around 75k plus commission – 5 -10% commission depending on price points

Gallery price range: £20k to £100k for primary
